"Leopoldino" Vermentino
Made from the Vermentino and Viognier (12%) vine varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately. The pneumatic crushing is very gentle and the must obtained is cooled and carefully decanted. Fermentation takes place in thermo-conditioned stainless steel vats with selegcted yeasts at a temperature of 20° C. Once fermentation is completed the wine is left in contact with its lees for a few months up to a few days before the Vermentino is blended with the Viognier and then bottled.
The colour is straw yellow with greenish glints, the fragrance intense and fruity with floral notes, the taste is full, well-structured with a good balance between acidity and softness.

Tuscany is not generally known for its white wines, but there are exceptions to every rule. Vermentino is proving particularly successful from the vineyards all along the Tuscan coast and it is also grown extensively on both Corsica and Sardinia. This example from Fattoria Il Casalone close to the town of Orbetello includes a tiny amount of Viognier, and the result is very successful. Whereas Vermentino on its own is fresh and pithy, the Viognier adds extra weight and mouth feel to the palate, with some ripe peachy notes.
